| Course History Centura Hills Golf Club offers a challenging yet enjoyable golf experience to golfers of all skill levels. Golf architect, Marty Johnson designed and built the course. The first 9 holes were constructed in 1996 and the new 9 hole addition was completed in 2007. The 18 hole layout incorporates holes from the new and the old into each of the 9’s. Today the course plays to a little over 6800 yards with the front nine playing at 3290 and the back nine playing at 3538 yards. Many improvements have been made through the years such as the addition of over 100 trees and several sand traps have been added. There are several more improvements planned for the future to further enhance one’s golf experience. Golfers will find Centura Hills offers something different from most other courses in Central Nebraska. The course features rolling hills, lots of links style mounding, a creek running through several holes and native roughs. The course is always in great condition and the greens are absolutely some of the best you will find anywhere. Although the course begins with a couple of very friendly holes things can change very quickly. On the front nine there is a section of the course on holes 7-9 called “Amen Bend.” This section of the course is very difficult with the creek wandering through them and trouble lurks everywhere. There is also a church nearby that offers solace to those who have failed as well as to give thanks to those who survive. While the front nine plays almost 250 yards shorter than the back nine, more potential trouble awaits the players on the front nine if the ball decides to have a mind of its’ own. One may want to stop in the clubhouse at the turn for a shot of courage because you are about to embark on a very challenging stretch of holes. Long and straight is the order of the day if you want to conquer holes 10-16. This stretch has claimed many victims who didn’t have the stamina or the mental fortitude to withstand the relentless difficulty laid before them. Having survived this stretch you can now bring it home and relax in the friendly confines of the clubhouse or enjoy watching the other victims from the deck above #18. The course features a putting green, driving range, rental clubs, rental carts, pull carts, locker room, showers, snack / beverage bar and a meeting room. Centura Hills Golf Club is located in Cairo, NE 13 miles west of Grand Island on Hwy 2 then ¼ mile north on Hwy 11 and turn right on Centura Hills Drive. Our members and friendly staff take pride in our course and we invite everyone to come and enjoy a game we all love on a course we love to play. “Centura Hills Golf Club….it’s worth the drive” |
